When will my child start school?

Most children start reception full-time in September after their fourth birthday.  For example if your child turns 4 in June, they'll usually start school in September that same year. 

If your child was born between 1st September 2021 and 31st August 2022 they will be eligible to start school in the school year beginning September 2026.

Can I still apply for a School Place?

The national main round application window to apply for a Year R place for September 2026 has now closed, however you can still apply to us by making what is officially called a "Late" application.  As the birth rate in this part of the New Forest is lower than it used to be, you are still highly likely to be offered a place here even if you apply later.

We welcome applications from families no matter what their postcode or which council area they live in.  
 

The application process for a Year R place varies depending on the council area you live in, as you must make an application with the County Council that you reside in.
