New Milton Infant School
Together, we make a difference
We host several workshops for parents and carers throughout the year to share information on how we teach your child our curriculum, and how you can support their learning at home.
Details of upcoming events will be posted here.
With some exceptions, all children who have reached the age of 6 by the end of the school year must sit a national phonics check during that academic year. For most, this will be in year 1.
The phonics screening check is a check of your child’s phonics knowledge. It helps school confirm whether your child is making the progress expected in the National Curriculum.
In 2026, the check will take place during the week commencing Monday 8th June.
The screen is administered by the child's class teacher within a comfortable, quiet and familiar environment. It contains 40 words, divided into two sections of 20 words. Both sections contain a mixture of real words and pseudo-words (words which are not real but that can be sounded out).
On Wednesday 8th October at 8:55am, Mrs Pilley will be running a short workshop in the school hall, with further information about what your child will be covering in phonics during Year1. There will be handouts available.
Please book your place at this workshop via our Eventbrite link below
Welcome to the beginning of an exciting phonics and reading journey with your child. A journey where all children, whatever their starting point, will become a fluent, confident reader who loves books!
On Friday 10th October at 8:55am, Mrs Pilley will be running a short workshop in the school hall, with further information about what your child will be covering in phonics during the Autumn Term in Year R and how you can support at home.
Please sign up via the link below Booking Link for Year R Phonics Workshop for Parents/Carers if you would like to reserve a space. Following the workshop, the presentation will be uploaded to Dojo for those of you unable to attend.
The children have recently had assemblies to further support their understanding of using the zones of regulation and how these can be used to help you if you are feeling happy, sad, worried, angry and anything in between!
Mrs Pilley and Mrs Baker will be running a short workshop on Wednesday 15th October at 8:55am to share the zones with you and how you can use these at home. A copy of the zones will be given to all families able who attend along with strategies to help manage big feelings at home.
